The Formal Garden
The Formal Garden was designed by Michael Marriott, formerly of David Austin Roses, and was planted in October 2019. It features extensive plantings of English Roses framed by climbing roses on espaliers and large arbors. There is also a hybrid tea rose display accented with tree roses and custom obelisks with more climbing roses. Three pocket gardens feature celebrity-named roses, love-themed roses, and a secret garden with a large windchime suspended in a Jude the Obscure covered arbor. The lawn entry leads to a large fountain accented with a border of Carding Mill. The entire garden is surrounded by a tall hedge of Carolina Cherry.
California Casual Garden
The Informal or “California Casual” garden was designed by members of the owner’s family, who each suggested themes for different plantings. A large gazebo over looks the pond, which is home to a dozen happy koi. Surrounding the pond and interlaced with pathways are an edible garden, a Mediterranean garden with many colorful perennials, a children’s play garden, a white Moon garden, a yellow Sun garden, and a large pergola with picnic tables. Extensive rose plantings circle the pond, highlighting shrub, groundcover, floribunda, and miniature roses. Newly introduced rose varieties are also planted near the gazebo and changed out yearly to showcase new varieties.
Be sure to visit our Free Little Library, offering a variety of books for everyone to enjoy.
The Cottage Garden
The Cottage Garden is outside the main hedge and features a white picket fence and garden shed restroom. The featured roses are mainly David Austin English Roses saved from the original display garden from 1990 to the early 2000’s. The roses are interplanted with many colorful perennials.
