Family Owned & Proudly Grown in California

Founded in 1975 by Otto Klittich, Jeanne Klittich, and their four sons — Bob, Bill, Scott, and Karl — Otto & Sons Nursery has proudly served California growers, landscapers, and garden centers for more than 50 years. Before establishing the nursery, Otto spent 22 years landscaping throughout Southern California under the name Landscape by Otto.

Originally located on a 2½-acre property in Chatsworth, the nursery relocated to Fillmore in 1978 and has since expanded to 38 acres. Today, the nursery is owned and operated by Scott and Cindy Klittich alongside their three sons. Scott joined the family business in 1985 after earning a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

In 2017, their son Andy joined the company and now serves as General Manager. Later, in 2020, their son Tim joined as Production Manager. Both Andy and Tim earned degrees in Plant Protection from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Together, they continue the family tradition of growing premium-quality plants for Californians to enjoy.

How We Grow

All of our plants begin in a custom soil blend we create in-house. This mix is used for most of our plants and provides them with a strong, healthy start. Our well water naturally contains high levels of calcium, so we carefully balance it by injecting acid to lower the pH and keep minerals properly dissolved. We also add small amounts of nitrogen and potassium nutrients to the irrigation water, allowing plants to receive consistent fertilization with every watering.

To maintain plant health, we actively follow integrated pest management practices throughout the nursery. Our in-house Pest Control Adviser and Certified Crop Adviser inspect the fields weekly to monitor the health of our nursery stock. When pests or insects become an issue, we use a combination of beneficial insects along with organic and conventional pest control products to manage them effectively.

What We Grow

We specialize in cultivating premium roses, edible plants, and flowering perennials. Most of our plants are grown outdoors in containers ranging from #1 pots to 24-inch boxes, ensuring strong, healthy growth and exceptional quality.

Our nursery features a charming garden shop stocked with many of the plants and products we offer, along with a beautiful 1.5-acre display garden that showcases our collections throughout the year. We primarily serve retail garden centers that demand the highest standards of quality, with our service area spanning from San Francisco to San Diego.

To provide the finest roses, we source bareroot stock from leading growers, including Weeks Roses, Star Roses, Certified Roses, and David Austin Roses. Each year, we carry an extensive selection of David Austin English Roses. Our bareroot roses are carefully potted into #5 or #15 containers. We also propagate a select range of specialty plants in-house.

Proudly offering the largest selection of roses west of the Rockies, we are a destination for rose enthusiasts and garden professionals alike. Our edible plant collection includes a wide variety of popular fruits and vegetables, while our inventory of more than 250 flowering perennials ensures there is always something blooming in every season.
