Otto & Sons Nursery was established in 1975 by Otto and Jeanne Klittich and their four sons; Bob, Bill, Scott, and Karl. Prior to starting the nursery, Otto landscaped in the Southern California area as "Landscape by Otto" for 22 years. From a 2 ½ acre property in Chatsworth, the nursery was relocated to Fillmore in 1978 and has expanded to a total of 38 acres. The nursery is currently owned and managed by Scott & Cindy Klittich. Scott joined the business in January 1985 after receiving a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Since then he has helped the nursery grow and continue its goal of raising high-quality plants for Californians to enjoy.

We supply independent retail garden centers and landscapers throughout the region with quality plant material. With over 43 years in the business, we strive to offer the best selection and the highest quality plant material all ready to make your yard the best it has ever been.

How We Grow

All of our plants start with our custom blended soil mix that we make in house. This mix is used for most of our plants and gets them off to a great start in life. Our well water has a high calcium content which we adjust by injecting acid into it to lower the pH and keep the minerals in solution. We also inject a small amount of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer into the water so the plants are fertilized every time we water. We also actively practice integrated pest management to ensure our plants are healthy. Our in house Pest Control Adviser and Certified Crop Adviser walks the fields weekly to make sure our nursery stock is healthy. We use beneficial insects, organic and conventional pesticide products to control insects and pests when they become an issue.

What We Grow

We grow outdoor landscape materials in #1 containers through 24-inch boxes. Our main customers are retail garden centers where superior quality is demanded. Our service area extends from San Luis Obispo County to San Diego County. We buy our roses bareroot from several companies: Weeks Roses, Star Roses, Certified Roses, and David Austin Roses. We also propagate a small number of specialty varieties in-house once the roses are off-patent. All of the bareroot roses are grown in #5 or #15 containers. We stock a large selection of David Austin's English roses every year. Our rose selections include Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, Floribundas, landscape and ground cover roses; climbing roses, and miniature roses. Rose trees are available with 24" and 36" trunk heights.
